Hello to all that happen to fall into this webspace that is and will continue to be my blog. This is my first entry, so bare with me if I'm a bit rough around the edges.
As I sit at my desk at the end of my second week of a new job, I've begun to to wonder, have I made a mistake? Not in leaving my old position, that was a necessity. When the job becomes mundane or you find yourself trying to fabricate excuses for why you should not go in, it's time to move on. That much I know. What I'm starting to regret is accepting this current position so quickly. I found my last job so unbearable due to the beauracracy and lack of professionalism that encompassed the day to day operations that I felt my physical health deteriorating. I was moody when I got home, had no energy to excercise, started drinking excessively and generally leading an existance that was bordering on depression.
So, I took the required steps to look elsewhere. Living in London there is plenty of work, especially in media sales which is what I currently do. So I linked up with an agency who were great! Very professional and indicated that I was a fantastic candidate that would make their job of finding me a role pleasurable. The problem was, I was sold to! I was sold a story of grandeur and opportunity. I know, it's only been two weeks, be patient, and I agree. However, when you know, you know and right now, at the end of this second week....I know this isn't for me.
Where from here?
Well, at this particular point in time I have to hold on just a little bit longer. Financially it's not the right time. I have a holiday coming up and bills that everyone has to deal with, so I stay but only as long as is absolutely necessary. Which brings me to the point of this entry.
You should never stay somewhere you don't enjoy working. If you're not in love with the work you do, find something you love doing and do it! FULL STEAM AHEAD! Life is too short and doing something you can't stand...or even doing something you mildly dislike is unacceptable. It may take hard work, long hours and sleepless nights but when you find that thing, that job that is just right for you...you'll know it and you'll be so glad you've found it or it found you, whichever it may be.
I don't plan to be with this company(which will remain nameless) for more than 3 months. I know you're probably thinking, "3 months, that's a while to do something you hate doing?". Like I said, financially it isn't the right time and please, don't be foolish and leave yourself starving. The point is, use your free time to find what makes you happy so you can focus a portion of your time getting set up to enter that area, create a business or whatever the venture may be. But, DO IT and do it now!
The majority of people are miserable in the work they currently do, don't subscribe to settling in a routine that is built on complacency and ease. It's cliche to say but the road less travelled may be the harder choice but always bares the most succulent fruit.
Get out there and explore.
